According to American Cancer Society estimates, lung cancer will account for 27 percent of all US cancer deaths in 2013, making it by far the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women. Part of the problem is getting the toxic chemotherapeutic drugs used to treat the cancer into the lungs. A new drug delivery system aims to overcome this problem by allowing the drugs to be inhaled, thereby delivering the drug where it is needed while reducing the harmful effects to other organs.

The new treatment developed by researchers from Oregon State University (OSU), Rutgers University and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey uses nanoparticles as a drug carrier to transport the anticancer drugs directly into the lungs. These “nanostructured lipid nanocarriers” readily attach to cancer cells and are smaller than a speck of dust so can be easily inhaled.

As well as a payload of chemotherapeutic drugs, the nanoparticles also carry small interfering RNA (siRNA). This is a molecule that helps control and repress certain genes and makes the cancer cells more vulnerable by helping to eliminate both “pump” resistance, where the drugs are expelled from the cancer cell interior, and “non-pump” resistance, which keeps the cancer cell from dying.

“Lung cancer damage is usually not localized, which makes chemotherapy an important part of treatment,” said Oleh Taratula, an assistant professor in the OSU College of Pharmacy and co-author on the study. “However, the drugs used are toxic and can cause organ damage and severe side effects if given conventionally through intravenous administration.

Inhalation of the chemotherapeutic agents also ensures they arrive in more intact form than conventional intravenous delivery, in which the drugs tend to accumulate in the liver, kidney and spleen before they can make it to the site of the cancer. In the researcher’s study, the amount on the drug delivered to the lungs increased from 23 percent with injection, to 83 percent using the inhalation approach.

“A drug delivery system that can be inhaled is a much more efficient approach, targeting just the cancer cells as much as possible,” said Taratula. “Other chemotherapeutic approaches only tend to suppress tumors, but this system appears to eliminate it.” The researchers have applied for a patent for the inhalation technology, but say more testing will be required before moving onto human clinical trials.

The study appears in the Journal of Controlled Release and can be downloaded from OSU.

Dr. Flavin is a former toxicologist for the Food and Drug Administration. She spent 20 years doing research on cancer and cancer prevention in Germany before returning to the US and heading the Foundation. Put simply, this woman reads between 100 – 150 medical research papers each week. She is an intellectual sponge that understands the nuances of biochemistry, pharmacology, and nutrient biochemistry and translates an incredible amount of highly detailed scientific data into an understandable treatment plan that doesn’t unnecessarily poison (chemotherapy), burn (radiation therapy), or cut (surgery) the human body in an effort to heal it. She will consult with your current physician or oncologist and recommend a course of action based on all the latest data that your doc doesn’t have the time to read because they’re busy treating 30-40 patients per day.

2011 Doctor Flavin, M.D.

Dear Colleagues. For over a year I have been trying to find out about the sodium
dichloroacetate after hearing about it in the paper. since I am a former FDA official
and physician/scientist, I was cautious and skeptical, so I did not suggest this for
patients to take. However a patient of mine in california whom I was consulting had
already had hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on his Non Hodgkins lymphoma
treatment and after a while all the tumors came back so he could not even get on a
t-shirt they were so large.

He found this compound, a by product of chlorinating
water, and took it at his own risk since there wasn’t that much data for safety and
efficacy. In 7 weeks the tumors were all gone. Now he is slowly tapering off form
this to see what happens. I am quite surprised and saw his CT’s recently. We shall
publish this as a case study since he wasn’t on anything else.

My colleagues in Canada, tell me that it does not work on pancreas well, nor sarcoma, but appreas to
be very beneficial in many other types of cancers. colon, Breast, liver, lung. Might be
dangerous for brain, but so far the information is very interesting and I just wanted
to share this with you.

We shall observe his condition and keep you all posted if you
are interested. I warned him that this is not a “cure” not a “treatment”, it appears to
help the body rid the cancers through it’s own immune system, or perhaps by
reestablishing the aerobic metabolism in the cancers mitochondria. It is said it
works on the mitochondria in the cancer cells. I shall be researching more on this
topic.

My best regards,
Dana
It seems this area of the body can have many ‘treatments’ for various conditions such as hemroids treatment, anal warts treatment, and phv treatment. It is interesting to note that popular actress Farrah Fawcett brought more light to anal cancer treatment when she spoke openly about it and received a lot of media attention about her affliction. The so call Farrah Fawcett Treatment was an anal cancer treatment that Fawcett underwent in Germany as her chosen treatment was not FDA approved. She travelled to Germany 6 times to get care and reported that it helped her. Ultimately, she did succumb to anal cancer. Her friends and family report that she kept her spirits high possibly due to the anal cancer treatment she received in Germany.

New Anal Cancer Treatment Option

A new cancer treatment using an old compound was discovered in 2007 at the University of Alberta Medical Research Department using a medical compound called dichloroacetate (DCA) that has safely been used in humans for decades to treat lactic acidosis and other mitochondrial ailments and diseases. Researchers believe that a process called apoptosis (programmed cell death) is either blocked or broken. Apoptosis allows the body to get rid of abnormal cells that could become cancerous. DCA turns apoptosis back on and lets the body heal itself and get rid of damaged and worn out cells. This results in a profound reduction in tumor size. Blood and bone cancers also respond very well to DCA treatment. One bone cancers patient reports that his cancer disappeared in 30 days using only DCA. (medically verified remission meaning cancer cells undetectable in both blood tests and xrays). Here is a report from a respected medical journal of how one person beat Non-Hodgkin S Lymphoma using DCA.

Anal cancer and colorectal cancer are two different things and are treated differently. Anal cancer is, in the US, primarily a squamous cell carcinoma, which is skin cancer. The epidermis of the skin is primarily made up of squamous cells. These cells are found in many places including the digestive tract, mouth, prostate, lungs and other areas.

Other Anal Cancer Treatment Options

Anal cancer is usually treated with radiation treatments or chemotherapy. Surgery used to be the main way to treat anal cancer. However it is now usually only used as a third anal cancer treatment when other treatments don’t work or can not be used for some reason. Surgery can be very debilitating, hence the focus on chemotherapy and radiation. Radiation and chemotherapy can be combined, called “‘chemoradiotherapy.” Common chemotherapy anal cancer treatment products include cisplatin and 5-FU. As with all cancers, early detection greatly increase survival rates. The anal cancer prognosis is quite good, cure and survival rates are considered excellent. The anal cancer treatment that an individual chooses is a personal matter however there are some instances when surgery is preferred. In cases where the anal cancer is well-differentiated and can be removed without the removal of the anal muscles. Also surgery can be used in situations where patients have already lost their sphincter muscles and cannot control bowel movements

New Breast Cancer Treatment: DCA

DCA was recently found by the University of Alberta (2007) to kill human breast, lung, and brain cancer cells. A new mechanism was uncovered that is common in these types of cancer cells. DCA reactivates the cells mitochondria, which is ‘broken’ in cancer cells, and this reactivation triggers the cells natural suicide system. This process is called ‘apoptosis’ and is part of the natural life cycle of all cells.

Breast Cancer Treatment

Cells are created, divide, and specialize. When cells become worn out or damaged their natural programming tells them to die. In cancer cells this does not happen and the cells continue to live and usually multipy, hence the spread of cancer. DCA stops this process, thereby stopping the spread of cancer. In fact, in the clinical trials DCA shrunk tumors buy up to 70% in just 3 weeks. DCA did this and did not have any effect on the healthy cells (unlike chemotherapy and radiation therapy.)

Additionally, DCA actually makes cancer cells more vulnerable to other forms of cancer treatment. Because of this DCA can be used at the same time other cancer treatments are being used.

Breast Cancer Treatment

There are various breast cancer treatments which can be based on many factors such as age, stage, and type of cancer.

Common breast cancer treatments include:

Chemotherapy, breast cancer treatment drugs that kill the cancer cells (and often also kill healthy cells).

Breast Cancer Radiation Therapy, similar to chemotherapy in that radiation is used to kill cancer cells.

Breast Cancer Surgery, the cancer cells are cut out via surgery.

Prognosis and survival rates vary greatly and depend on many factors. These breast cancer treatments also have many well known and documented side effects. Some breast cancer treatment drugs can be very dangerous. Case in point, the FDA just withdrew approval for Avastin and called it ‘dangerous.’ In 2007 researchers at the University of Alberta uncovered a new use for an old compound. They found that DCA (sodium dichloroacetate) can shrink cancer tumors by up to 70% in only 3 weeks.

How Do You Know DCA is Working?

Patients sometimes report feeling pain or ‘burning’ sensation at the tumor site, usually within the first few days of using DCA. This is a good indication that DCA is working to break down the tumor. DCA may be the most beneficial form of breast cancer treatment to be uncovered in many years.
